Documentation Opacity

8 issues reported

The power outlet in the truck bed, previously standard, is now an optional paid feature on 2026 F-450 models. Without it, there's no power available in the bed.

Power deployable running boards, which assist entry on higher trucks like the F-450, are no longer standard and must be added as an option.

The external keypad for keyless entry, a formerly factory-standard convenience on Super Duty trucks, has been removed from factory options starting 2025 and is now a costly dealer add-on.

The F-450 lacks a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) display in the vehicle's information menu, unlike lesser Super Duty models.

Parking sensors and camera on the tailgate are no longer available as options on newer Super Duty models.

Ford no longer includes a physical owner's manual in the glove box; it's only accessible digitally via the vehicle's screen.

Ford's numerous privacy policies across websites, vehicles, services, and apps are hard to understand and time-consuming to review.

Banks and insurers often classify the F-450 as a commercial vehicle, complicating financing with higher rates and requiring special policies.

Electronic Alerts & Nags

10 issues reported

The vehicle displays a false warning that it's not in park even when the column shifter is properly attached, potentially preventing shutdown. An audible alert may also trigger if the shifter mechanis...

Trailer wiring fault warnings appear on the dash even when no trailer is connected, creating unnecessary annoyance without affecting drivability.

The trailer control module malfunctions after long drives, unexpectedly switching braking from heavy to light, or falsely detects solar interference causing brake loss on hills.

The oil life indicator repeatedly warns to change oil every startup, even immediately after reset, requiring constant dismissal.

The diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) gauge inaccurately shows low levels or 'refill soon' despite ample remaining fluid (e.g., 3/4 tank or 600 miles range), nagging every startup especially when towing.

The truck's frequent chimes for various alerts are irritating and cannot be easily disabled without third-party tools like FORScan.

When exiting a running truck with keys in pocket (e.g., to grab something inside), the horn blares loudly and repeatedly as a security alert.

The dash seatbelt warning light blinks persistently and cannot be fully disabled, even after turning off the chime.

A vehicle data collection consent notice repeatedly pops up during drives and cannot be permanently dismissed without disabling connectivity.

Adaptive cruise control maintains excessive following distance even on the shortest setting and unnecessarily brakes when catching up uphill or delaying a pass.

Interface Friction

15 issues reported

The drive mode selection screen displays a generic animation saying 'That ain't a 450' instead of a custom one fitting for a premium $100k+ truck.

Front windows have auto up/down functionality, but rear windows require holding the switch the entire time, which feels cheap at this price point.

Rear, backup, and cargo cameras produce fuzzy, pixelated, low-resolution images despite a decent infotainment screen, making them hard to use.

Unlike competitors like Ram, the F-450 lacks a high-quality digital rear camera view, even on $102k models.

The trailer brake controller screen shows a disconnection warning even when the trailer brakes are functioning normally.

The FordPass phone app takes 30-45 seconds to unlock the truck via cell tower communication.

Trailer tire pressure monitoring system sensors fail to learn when the trailer exceeds 26 feet in length, causing constant faults.

The fuel economy display does not adjust for trailer towing and inaccurately drops over the trip.

The Ford Sync system is laggy, hard to use, and ranks low compared to competitors, especially without CarPlay/Android Auto.

The infotainment screen is considered too small for a $100k truck compared to larger screens in competitors like Ram.

Push button start often fails to detect the key fob, draining its battery and requiring manual placement in a hidden slot.

The key fob's remote window roll-up function, activated by holding the lock button, does not work.

The mechanism to unlatch and fold down the back seat is difficult to locate and feels awkward to operate.

The persistent vehicle data collection notice cannot be dismissed without fully disabling connectivity.

SYNC WiFi updates halt after 30 minutes with ignition off, require repeated cycles, show no progress, and take excessively long.

OTA Behavior

12 issues reported

The vehicle's over-the-air (OTA) software updates frequently introduce glitches, inconsistent behavior, and malfunctions in the SYNC4 screen or truck systems. Owners report issues like screens default...

OTA updates reset personalized vehicle settings including gauges, radio presets, MyView options, and cause the SYNC4 screen to revert to defaults. Owners must repeatedly reconfigure after each update.

OTA updates erase saved and recent navigation destinations from the SYNC system. This forces owners to re-enter frequently used locations after every update.

Owners cannot completely disable automatic OTA updates, as background installations continue even when auto-updates are turned off. Ford pushes updates regardless of user preferences.

There is no owner option to choose, rate, or preview OTA updates before installation, with no Ford Pass notifications for approval. Updates arrive unannounced and without user consent.

OTA updates overwrite custom engine tunes without notification on the SYNC screen. This disrupts performance modifications owners have installed.

Many owners experience long delays, no updates despite availability via FDRS, or failure to receive expected features like SOC display. Updates roll out unpredictably by VIN batches.

OTA updates fail to install reliably even when scheduled on WiFi, with greyed-out options, dealer interventions failing, and vehicles showing 'up to date' while far behind. WiFi delivery when parked/o...

Owners receive frequent false 'update' notifications on every other startup without actual updates installing. This creates confusion and frustration.

OTA updates silently turn off the vehicle's WiFi without notification, disrupting connectivity. Owners discover it only after checking.

Automatic OTA updates disrupt vehicle performance and features. Owners strongly advise disabling them to avoid issues.

A dealership-installed engine tuning OTA update significantly reduced fuel economy. Owners report worse MPG after the update.

Software Stability

8 issues reported

The truck's engine control software corrupts, triggering a persistent wrench warning light and check engine light on startup. Dealers fix it by reprogramming, but the issue recurs.

The truck intermittently fails to recognize the key fob, cranking the engine but sounding a loud warning bong. Accessories shut down prematurely to save battery, and door-activated lights fail.

The infotainment system (SYNC) is generally unreliable, crashing, rebooting, freezing, or slowing down, especially after OTA updates. Users report black screens and persistent glitches.

The trailer brake module loses connection with trailer brakes on startup or during towing, disabling brakes until reset by unhooking, rehooking, or cycling park/drive.

Advanced trailering aids like Pro Trailer Backup Assist and smart hitch malfunction due to software errors, showing incorrect angles or freezing during use.

The rear view camera freezes, delays, goes black, or fails entirely, especially after OTA updates, compromising safety during reversing and maneuvering.

The driver's seat memory feature fails to consistently return the seat to the programmed position on startup.
